I missed a couple of things while I was in Africa. I missed Father’s Day, but I get to have that on Friday. I also missed Kate’s birthday. Our baby girl turned two while I was away.
Kate is the only one of our four that came like you see on T.V. The others just didn’t want to come out. So, Sonya would progress until the doctor said something like, “Either we induce or he/she just might fall out.” Brotey’s doctor even gave us a rubber glove to take home with us just in case he had to come to our house. So we got used to the predictable pace of induction. Then, we had Kate.
It was a Friday night. Sonya had a few contractions – nothing new. She woke me at 11:25 p.m. Then, 12:25 a.m. No reason to panic. 12:50 a.m. Getting interesting. 1:10 a.m. 1:20 a.m. Maybe we should call the doctor. When we got to the hospital Sonya was at 8cm. The doctor told me that he would give her the epidural but it probably wouldn’t take at this point. When asked I suggested that we not tell her. It didn’t take. Later, I fessed up and Sonya agreed that I made the right desicion. Kate came at around 6:55 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2006. She was and is gorgeous. Children indeed are a blessing from the Lord.
Thank you, God.
